Kevin Anderson is the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), also known as the Maryland Department of Commerce. As secretary of the DBED, he sets policy, promulgates rules and regulations, and determines the strategies necessary to fulfill the Department’s mandate. He is responsible for the budget of the Department, its boards, commissions, and offices.
The Maryland/Israel Development Center (MIDC) lists the DBED as a sponsoring partner.
As the chair of the Maryland Military Installations Council, itself part of the DBED, Kevin Anderson is no stranger to the military industrial complex in Maryland.
In 2022, the MIDC received just over $340,000 in government grants. While we do not know the exact proportions, the vast majority of this grant money comes from the DBED. It makes up around half of the MIDC’s budget each year. In addition, the DBED provides funding for new Israeli companies moving to the state. This can come in the form of tax credits, such as the Biotechnology and Cyber Security Investor Tax Credits, or directly in the form of cash investments, as is the case when American subsidiaries of Israeli companies get research and development money from the Maryland/Israel Development Fund.
We say no more. No more funds for apartheid and genocide. No more complicity for Maryland taxpayers.
